Alan Braxe & Fred Falke
The story begins in 1996, when Alan Braxe, inspired by the emergence of house music and techno, both of which he discovered in 1990, starts composing his own pieces, alone except for a few machines. A few months later, his first single, the blazing “Vertigo”, is released on the label Roulé. Rehearsing for a concert at the Rex Club, he asks a couple of friends to help him play his music live: Benjamin Diamond on vocals and Thomas Bangalter (founder of the Roulé label – one-half of Daft Punk) on keyboards. During these rehearsals, they come across a Chaka Khan loop that will soon become the framework of “Music Sounds Better With You”, their worldwide hit under the name of Stardust.
After this experience, Alan Braxe decides to dedicate himself in parallel to two types of activities: that of remixer - solo work - and that of producer and composer - collaborative work intended for his label.
That is how he creates Vulture, his own independent label, in order to release the music he produces with other musicians. In 2000, he put out “Intro”: this first reference of his label is composed with long-time friend, bassist Fred Falke. This first record immediately goes into the UK and French charts, and soon becomes one of the hits of the year. It is played in every club to ecstatic dancers. To date, “Intro” has sold over 180.000 copies, although it only benefited from an independent distribution.
« Palladium », the second single they made together – still on the Vulture label - is released in March 2002. Originally, this instrumental piece was written for DVD project Vanity 9, a compilation of video-clips of French “house” artists, under the direction of Seb Janiak. The video clip being regularly played on MTV, and as the track got significant airplay on radio stations such as Fun, Alan decided to cut a vinyl.
He will then go on to release a third single with partner Fred Falke: “Rubicon”, an instrumental gem with a highly cinematographic dynamic. For the occasion, American director Matthew K. Frost shoots a video clip and a short film in Los Angeles, in which the band The Like also makes an appearance.
In parallel, Alan Braxe also initiates a collaboration with Parisian singer and producer Romuald. Under the name The Paradise, they release an intoxicating house music single together, “In Love With You” (May 2003), in which Romuald’s voice surfs over this highly hypnotic Braxe production.
Along with all these collaborations, Alan Braxe multiplies his solo remix projects. That’s how he got down to reconstruct Britney Spear’s “Anticipating” single, after tackling Björk classics and club-specific pieces such as Shakedown’s “At Night”, or Benjamin Diamond’s “In Your Arms”. A new album will arrive ...
