Alex Gopher
Alex Gopher’s story started with Orange, a pop band set up in 1985 with Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin, who both went on to become Air, and Xavier Jamaux (now Bang-Bang). Following the band’s split in the early 90s, Alex worked with Nicolas for a while and then alone, allowing him to experiment and find his own sound. Alex Gopher also co-founded the label Solid in 1994 with Etienne de Crécy and Pierre-Michel Levallois who helped him release his first maxi and were with him throughout the production of his album. He worked as a sound engineer at the mastering studio Translab where he met many producers and artists. This experience was a hugely mind expanding. However he spent less time on his music and his album evolved slowly and discreetly over a two-year period. From January 1995, major releases and projects have been: 5 maxis released including the famous Gordini Mix-Remixes (with mixes by Air and Etienne de Crécy), 2 titles on the Superdiscount project, featured on numerous compilations (Sourcelab 1&2, What's Up, Art of France, French Fried Funk…) and remixes for Etienne de Crécy, Mozesli, Bob Sinclar, Nightmares on Wax and also Téri Moïse, Jean-Louis Aubert, Zazie and Sly & Robbie. His first album ‘You, my Baby, and I’ was released in 1999 in 25 countries, giving him his international reputation. ‘Wuz’, his second album was released in 2002, in collaboration with Demon. Since then, he hasn’t stopped touring abroad. The latest countries he performed in, accompanying Etienne de Crecy and Julien Delfau aka Mr Jo for Super Discount, are Spain, Italy, Australia, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, the UK and Brazil. In June, he released a maxi on BTK and another one will be out before the end of the year. His next album will surely be out soon! Keep your ears open...
